Derek C. Cooper

CDR COL Derek C. Cooper is a Distinguished Military Graduate from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona with a Baccalaureate Degree in Aeronautical Science and a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate. COL Cooper was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army on 26 April 1991. Upon completing the Medical Service Corps Basic Course and the Medical Logistics Basic Course in December 1991, he was assigned as the Operations Officer for the 37th Medical Battalion in Pirmasens, Germany followed by an assignment as a Platoon Leader for the 226th Medical Battalion. He was reassigned in 1994 to the 1st Armored Division where he served as the Division Medical Supply Officer. In 1997, following the Officer Advanced Course and USAMMA Internship Program, he was assigned to 3rd Infantry Division in Hinesville, Georgia where he served on the DISCOM staff and later commanded the Charlie Company, 703rd Main Support Battalion. Following command, COL Cooper earned a Masters of Science in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology.
In 2001, he was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington and served as the Chief of Property Management, Madigan Army Medical Center. After attendance at the Command and General Staff College where he earned a Masters of Military Art and Science, COL Cooper was assigned to 18th Medical Command in Korea. He served a year as the 18th MEDCOM Support Operations Officer and a year as the Executive Officer for the 52nd Medical Evacuation Battalion. His next assignment was as the Deputy G4 for 30th Medical Brigade where he deployed for OIF in 2005/2006. Upon redeployment he served as the Deputy V Corps Surgeon in Heidelberg, Germany until the summer of 2008 when he assumed command of the U.S. Army Health Clinic, Hohenfels. In July 2010, COL Cooper assumed duties as the Executive Officer, Director of Logistic/G4, Office of the Surgeon General/MEDCOM. In June 2013, COL Cooper deployed to Afghanistan with the 62nd Medical Brigade and served as the Brigade Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff. Upon return from deployment COL Cooper was assigned as the MEDCOM Deputy G4 and served in that capacity until May 2015 when he was reassigned and assumed command of the 6th Medical Logistics Management Center, Fort Detrick, Maryland until May 2017. COL Cooper comes to the 65th Medical Brigade after most recently serving as the Chief of Staff, United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, Fort Detrick, Maryland.

COL Cooper's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (1OLC), the Bronze Star (1OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3OLC), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Expert Field Medical Badge. COL Cooper is married to Karen K. Cooper and they have two sons: Joshua and Bryce-Alan.

CSM CSM Barone is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and enlisted in the United States Army, June 1992, as a Combat Medic.

CSM Barone is married to Mrs. Shannon Barone for the past 25 years and have raised two wonderful children together.
